Pluto, a lonely rock, rediscovered in 1976, located in the furthest reaches of our solar system. Like so much in the universe, its existence began without status. Then planet. Then dwarf planet. Who knows what it will become in a few eons. First a grey sparrow, later an unexpected blue glow. Misunderstood and abandoned. Until the New Horizons satellite passed by and took away some of its mystery.

Underworld

Named after the Roman God Pluto; a misunderstood enigma. Eldest offspring of the Roman Olympians and burdened with the underworld by his youngest brother, Jupiter. Death and decay. Perhaps doomed to loneliness and an existence without love.

On an impulse, he abducted Jupiter's niece, daughter of his sister Demeter, Persephone goddess of spring. A true Stockholm syndrome occurred and she fell in love with him. Pluto saw himself in a new light... No longer just ruler of shadows. The seasons returned.

Meunier

So it was with Meunier, for centuries an honorable scion of the Pinot family, a house of repute, with history, with a name that weighed more heavily than the grape itself. Pinot was not a variety, it was a dynasty. A lineage dating back to times when origin decided who could speak and who had to be silent. As kingdoms once functioned, when power lay not in laws but in blood, and names were uttered with a slight bow of the head.

Until the vines and grapes themselves spoke. No pinecone-shaped bunch. No genetic kinship. No Pinot. The family ranks closed like gates at dusk. The name was revoked, the title stripped. Meunier remained, not banished, but displaced, as bastards are: acknowledged in silence, ignored in public.

Resilience

But Meunier never had anything to do with crowns. He knew the rain, the frost, the mould on his leaves. He knew what it was to survive without protection. His strength lay not in lineage, but in resilience. In tension and freshness, in the ability to stand upright as Blanc de Noirs without support, without squires, without heraldry. He mirrors himself, unfiltered, without pretense, without a mask.

Let them be Pinot.
Meunier suffices.
