Vineyard
The hand-harvested grapes are fermented as a co-fermented field blend without any additives in underground concrete tanks. This spontaneous fermentation is driven entirely by natural, indigenous yeasts from the vineyard. A gentle and controlled extraction is chosen to keep the tannins supple and the fruit optimally lively. The young red wine then quietly matures for eight months in the same concrete vats. Oak aging is deliberately avoided here to protect the pure expression of the fruit and the minerality of the subregion.
Vinification
The vineyards are located in the Douro Superior, the easternmost sub-region of the Douro, reaching as far as the Spanish border. The soil here consists of a massive matrix of pure slate (schist) and the annual rainfall, at an average of 300 mm, is extremely low. Fortunately, the significant altitude of these specific plots brings much-needed cooling to this otherwise scorching hot zone. This allows the grapes to ripen more slowly and evenly, resulting in a beautifully extended growing season. This entirely organic and biodynamically managed terroir gives the wine its characteristic power, concentration, and deep texture.

Portugal · Douro
