Vineyard

This cuvée is a tribute to Jacobus, who founded the Kühn dynasty in Oestrich in 1704, now spanning 11 generations. The grapes come from various vineyards in the vicinity of the winery. These are characterized by two different soil types. Part of the Riesling vines thrives on a fertile loess soil, an eolian silt deposit. The remaining part grows on a soil consisting of clayey loam with grey-veined quartzite.

Winemaking

The biodynamically grown grapes are hand-picked and undergo a strict selection. The whole bunches are pressed, after which fermentation starts spontaneously through the indigenous yeasts. The wine matures on its lees in a mix of stainless steel tanks and large wooden barrels.
