Vineyard
This cuvée is a tribute to Jacobus, who founded the Kühn dynasty in Oestrich in 1704, which is now 11 generations strong. The grapes come from various vineyards in the vicinity of the winery. These are characterised by two different soil types. Part of the Riesling vines thrive on a soil consisting of fertile loess, an aeolian deposit of silt. The remaining part grows on a soil consisting of clayey loam with grey-veined quartzite.
Winemaking
The biodynamically grown grapes are hand-picked and undergo a strict selection process. The whole bunches are pressed, after which fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine matures on its lees in a mix of stainless steel tanks and large wooden barrels.
