Vineyard

The plots are located north of the Sèvre, southwest of the Maine and near their confluence. The deep soil layers consist of gneiss, topped with a layer of sandstone and loam.

Winemaking

The organically grown grapes are hand-picked and pressed with great care. Fermentation is followed by a long maturation on the lees, for at least 2 years. This gives the wine good ageing potential.

Domaine de la Pépière werd in 1984 opgericht door Marc Ollivier in het dorp Maisdon-sur-Sèvre. De naam verwijst naar het gehucht Pépière, waar "pépie" vroeger symbool stond voor dorst. Door de droge, rotsachtige bodem was water er schaars en speelde wijn van oudsher een belangrijke rol in het dagelijkse leven. Sinds de oprichting groeide het domein gestaag door de aankoop van uitzonderlijke percelen met een sterke focus op kwaliteit en terroir.
