Vineyard

The vineyard, laid out in small terraces and measuring only 1.2 hectares, is located on a steep slope on the island of Giglio with a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea. This, relatively speaking, very young island was formed 5 million years ago. The mineral-rich and sandy soil consists of crumbled granite. You will find many iron deposits there.

Winemaking

The harvesting is done manually, with a strict selection already taking place at this stage. The grapes are destemmed and placed in stainless steel vats where the skins remain in contact with the juice during the temperature-controlled fermentation. For the 12-month aging on fine lees, previously used barriques and clay amphorae are employed.

Tenuta Isola nel Giglio

Voor de Toscaanse kust rijst Isola del Giglio als een granieten berg uit de Middellandse Zee. Wijnbouw kent er een eeuwenoude geschiedenis, maar door het ruige landschap bleef de productie steeds kleinschalig. In 2019 kocht de Franse ondernemer Philippe Austruy hier samen met agronoom Alessandro Fonseca een kleine wijngaard. Met Tenuta Isola nel Giglio willen ze de bijna verdwenen wijntraditie van het eiland nieuw leven inblazen en de lokale Ansonica naar haar hoogst mogelijke niveau tillen.
