Vineyard

The vineyards are located in the Gers region and benefit from two different soil types: limestone clay and silica-rich clay.

Winemaking

The whole grape bunches are gently pressed, followed by a slow fermentation. The wine then matures for eight months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Only a limited amount of sulphite is added during bottling at the château.

Château du Cèdre werd in 1958 opgericht door Charles Verhaeghe, zoon van de Vlaamse emigrant Léon Verhaeghe uit Moorslede. Sinds de jaren tachtig staan de broers Pascal en Jean-Marc aan het roer, elk met hun eigen specialisatie in wijngaard en kelder. Na een verwoestende hagelbui in 1995 kozen ze resoluut voor een meer natuurlijke aanpak, met als doel het unieke terroir van Cahors nog beter tot uiting te laten komen.
