Vineyard
Château de Beaucastel's 70-hectare vineyard is situated on the northern side of the appellation, between Orange and Avignon. It possesses the typical soil composition of the greatest Châteauneuf-du-Pape estates, with a sublayer of clay and limestone topped with sand and clay containing the characteristic "Galets Roulés" – large, rounded pebbles that play a crucial role in temperature regulation. During the day, they absorb a significant amount of heat, which they then radiate back at night, thus protecting the budding vines in spring. The vineyards, exposed to the Mistral wind, have been organically farmed since the 1960s. The vines are half a century old.
Vinification
Each grape variety is picked separately by hand. The Syrah and Mourvèdre are vinified in conical wooden vats. The other varieties undergo their vinification in concrete tanks. After malolactic fermentation, the different grape varieties are blended. Finally, the wine matures for 1 year in large oak barrels.
