Appellation - Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva
Vineyard
This selection comes from Villa delle Rose in Larniano, at 400 meters altitude with an eastern exposure. The soil consists of tufa and yellow clay, which contributes to both tension and minerality. The vines were about 10 years old in 2016 and are spur-cordon trained. The high altitude provides freshness and precision, while the poor, stony soil brings extra concentration. The whole yields a Vernaccia with more structure and terroir expression than the classic bottling.
Winemaking
The grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches. Fermentation, maturation, and élevage take place for 12 months in new French barriques, which gives the wine extra depth, structure, and spice. This is followed by another 7 months of maturation on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a long bottle aging period. This approach underlines the great aging potential and the distinctly evolving style of this riserva.
